Altar Society Ministry: Chairperson, Victoria Taylor
Mission: To enhance the beauty of the Community of Holy Rosary & St. John. The ministry became active in October 2003 and currently consists of 10 active members who meet every third Saturday to clean the church sanctuary, sacristy, choir loft and alcove. The normal cleaning time is from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m. The ministry is seeking the support of additional parishioners.

Alter Servers
are youth who have made their First Communion and adults who serve God and God’s people at Mass. They give of themselves to help the priest and people worship better. Alter servers are scheduled to assist at the 8:30 and 10:00 Mass each Sunday and Holy Day and at other liturgical celebrations throughout the year.

And Justice for All:
The Social Justice Committee is responsible for organizing and working on projects that improve the quality of life for our brothers and sisters. We will work on local, statewide and global issues of social justice. We will provide communications on pertinent issues to the parish and encourage parishioners to act and work for justice by attending occasional meetings and letter writing campaigns.

Black History Month
is celebrated in February. Our parish celebrates the contributions of the African American people and the gifts of faith shared by African American Catholics.
Our celebration includes weekly bulletin articles, rituals in the Mass, and a Sunday program and luncheon.
The committee meets in January and February for planning and to organize and carry out the program and luncheon.

Development Committee
plans, coordinates and schedules fund raising events and activities to benefit the church and church families. The committee meets every THIRD Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and currently has five active members.

Eucharistic Ministers:
Assist the priest in the distribution of the Eucharist at mass and to make the Eucharist available to our sick and homebound. There are currently 19 active members in this ministry. Faris Owens can assist you in becoming a member.

Facilities Committee
, led by David Francis, reviews and assesses maintenance needs of our facilities.

Gospel Choir
, under the direction of Pat Williams, celebrates at the 10:00 Sunday Mass. Rehearsals are held on Saturdays at 11:00 in the church. There are currently 20 active members. New members are always welcomed.

Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary
is a fraternal organization of Roman Catholic Men, Women and Children dedicated to serving our God, Church and Communities. Our noble order’s patron saint is Fr. Peter Claver, a Jesuit priest who was an advocate for African slaves.

Liturgy Committee
is responsible for preparing the lectors for both the 8:30 and 10:00 Mass. There are currently 25 lectors.

Martin Luther King Day Celebration
is held annually to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Planning begins in September of the previous year. Event is held in January and a host of volunteers assist the coordinator with this event.

Men’s Group:
Parish and non-parish men who fellowship in a Christian way are invited to join the men’s group. The Men’s group provides service and activities within the parish.

Phone Tree/Prayer Line:
In 2003 this ministry formed to accept the responsibility of informing parishioners of events, illnesses, emergencies, deaths and funerals that occur during the week. Parishioners will be contacted if prayers or assistance is needed.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A)
is a process for education, faith sharing, prayer, and discernment so that adults seeking to learn about the Catholic faith may discern and prepare for the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
Weekly classes meet on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30p.m. from September through May at one of the five participating Center City Churches. (Sts. Augustine and Gabriel, St. Dominic, St. Thomas the Apostle, Holy Cross and Holy Rosary St. John.)

Senior Impact:
The mission of senior impact is to assist with the distribution of the Eucharist to our sick and homebound. Various activities are offered to seniors to include: Mass, RCIA, luncheons, transportation to doctor visits, supermarket or long rides through the beautiful countryside.

St. John Food Pantry
provides non-perishable and perishable food to the needy, disenfranchised and those who are in temporary or permanent need of food.

St. John Learning Center: The Mission of the St. John Learning Center is to encourage literacy, learning and leadership. To promote pride, dignity, civic awareness and economic advancement through education and job training.

St. Paul Christmas Help:
This committee coordinates names of people in need during the Christmas season. Distribution of gifts takes place on one Saturday during December.

Sunday School
takes place each week from September through May. Classes meet on Sunday 11:30a.m. Until 12:45p.m. Classes include preschool (3 and 4 year olds); Kindergarten and Grades 1; Grades 2 and 3; Grades 4, 5, and 6; Confirmation; and High School.
Teachers share the riches of the Bible and the Catholic faith with our youth, helping the youth apply these teachings to the situations they face every day.

The Community Kitchen Inc.
serves daily midday meals Monday through Saturday and also operates a clothing room that provides free clothing and toiletries to families in need.
The Community Kitchen believes that all people deserve the basic shelter, medical attention and warmth. We assist those who are homeless, but our primary mission is to equip the marginally housed with resources and services to prevent homelessness. We offer assistance in ways that honor the dignity and respect of those in need.
Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11:30-12:30.

Ushers:

Our ushers serve as ministers of hospitality during Sunday Mass and special events.
They offer greetings, assist with seating, provide bulletins, assist with communion and offertory processions and offer farewells at the end of services.
Our ushers also assist in the annual Christmas Food Basket drive by collecting and distributing Christmas Gifts for those less fortunate. There are currently 18 active Ushers, consisting of 15 adults and 3 youth. Individuals interested in serving in this ministry should see Anthony Taylor, User Co-Chairperson.

Vacation Bible School
is held for two weeks each July from 9:30a.m. – 1:00p.m. Each day includes an opening and closing assembly, a Bible story lesson, music, crafts, dance, lunch, and field trips. Students share with their families what they have learned at an evening program and ice cream social.
Classes include 4 & 5 year olds, 6 & 7 year olds, 8 & 9 year olds, and 10 to 12 year olds.
